Dr. Elsedemy served as a Principal in the Egyptian Pool of Building Risk Insurance in Egypt, where he was responsible for reviewing and auditing a wide array of structural projects. This role provided him with deep insight into various building types and methodologies, enhancing his expertise in regulatory compliance and quality assurance. His work involved close collaboration with numerous consultants, further expanding his multidisciplinary experience and industry knowledge.
He also held leadership roles as Head of the Structural Department in international consultancy firm in the UAE, where he led teams on major regional developments. His responsibilities spanned design oversight, technical leadership, and strategic coordination with architects, contractors, and developers—contributing significantly to the successful delivery of iconic projects across the region.
In addition, Dr. Elsedemy was a board member of one of Egypt’s prominent consultancy firms, a family-run enterprise where he contributed to executive decision-making, business development, and strategic planning. He served as Principal Structural Engineer with an international consultancy firm in the UAE, where he led high-profile projects and provided expert guidance on advanced structural systems and materials performance.
Driven by a passion for bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world implementation, Dr. Elkafrawy specializes in structural engineering, materials science, retrofitting, and rehabilitation. With over a decade of combined academic and industry experience in diverse regions such as Australia, the UK, and the MENA region, he possesses a rare ability to bridge the gap between innovative research and practical applications, delivering impactful solutions to contemporary architectural and construction challenges.
His professional experience spans a wide range of projects, including residential, educational, and commercial designs, which have been greatly influenced by his proficiency in computational design, digital fabrication, and building performance modeling. This hands-on design experience directly informs his academic pursuits, while his research empowers him to create data-driven, future-focused solutions in sustainable construction, passive design, and modern methods of construction (MMC).
As the Architectural Design Director at Nebras, Dr. Gomaa plays a pivotal role in delivering holistic design strategies that marry aesthetic excellence with high-performance building systems. His expertise in energy simulation, material performance assessment, and retrofitting strategies enables clients to achieve reduced environmental footprints while enhancing overall building functionality and operational efficiency.
Currently serving as Assistant Professor and Major Discipline Coordinator for the Architectural Engineering program at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, Dr. Gomaa is dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and industry. He holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Adelaide, a Master's in Environmental Design and Energy Modeling from Cardiff University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Tanta University. He has taught at several prominent institutions, including the University of South Australia, Cardiff, and Plymouth. Dr. Gomaa is a registered architect in the MENA region and an active member of the Earth Building Association of Australia and the Robots in Architecture Association.
